ADAS Virtual Test Engineer
About the role
Italdesign intends to build a new internal capability and a demonstrable Minimum Viable Product related to Virtual Testing applied to ADAS. The project is currently at the concept stage. The intention is to design and develop a virtual testing architecture capable of simulating the full behaviour of a vehicle and validating ADAS software and code in virtual environments. The main motivation is to build internal expertise and reduce dependency on highly expensive licences for commercial simulation platforms. Tools such as dSPACE Aurelion, Vector DYNA4, Applied Intuition and IPG CarMaker have been mentioned, as their licence costs can be very high. The objective is to develop a first functional or demonstrable version by the end of the year. If the results are positive, the initiative is expected to continue over several years. Project and Team Overview The project is an internal Italdesign initiative and is not initially linked to a specific end-client requirement. The team will be small and highly technical: • Two people are already involved on Italdesign’s side. • The person joining the project. • Potential occasional support from external collaborators. The selected person will work closely with the current team. At least until the end of the year, there is no expectation of managing a large team or having significant hierarchical responsibilities. The role will have a strong technical focus and will be expected to provide the expertise currently missing within the team regarding end-to-end virtual testing processes and the use of simulation toolchains
Who we're looking for
Design the Virtual Testing Architecture • Define how the ADAS code/software, vehicle model, scenarios, simulator and results analysis should be integrated. • Propose a viable architecture for building the MVP. 2. Select and Integrate Simulation Tools • Assess commercial tools and/or alternative simulation solutions. • Work with platforms such as Aurelion, DYNA4, Applied Intuition, IPG CarMaker or equivalent tools. • Also consider tools and libraries such as CARLA, SUMO and other open-source solutions. 3. Build Simulations and Validation Campaigns • Simulate the complete vehicle and execute tests on the ADAS software and code. • Create scenarios, configure simulations and analyse the results obtained. 4. Develop and Automate Technical Components • Develop or adapt scripts, integrations and automation solutions using Python and/or C++. • Support the implementation of reproducible testing processes and automated results generation. Technical Environment and Methodologies Tools and Technologies Mentioned • Aurelion – dSPACE • DYNA4 – Vector • Applied Intuition • IPG CarMaker • CARLA • SUMO • Other potential equivalent ADAS simulation tools or libraries (One of them is enough) Programming • Python • C++ Understanding existing code is not sufficient. The company is looking for someone who can actively program, create scripts, adapt solutions and implement components from scratch whenever required. Expected Methodology • Virtual Testing applied to ADAS. • Vehicle simulation and testing of software and code. • Virtual testing architecture design. • Development of a technical MVP during the concept phase. • Validation through scenarios and results analysis. Mandatory Skills 1. Practical experience with at least one Virtual Testing or ADAS simulation tool: o Aurelion, DYNA4, Applied Intuition, IPG CarMaker or an equivalent solution. 2. Knowledge of the complete Virtual Testing process: o Simulation preparation. o Test execution. o Scenario configuration. o Results analysis. 3. Proven experience in the automotive industry, ADAS or vehicle systems simulation. 4. Ability to define or actively contribute to the architecture of a simulation or testing solution. 5. Strong knowledge of Python and/or C++. 6. Technical autonomy and the ability to work within a small team during a project definition and development phase. 7. Functional Spanish and English for a technical working
