What is Semantic Talent Discovery?

Semantic Talent Discovery is an AI candidate-search method, used by TrueCalling, that interprets the contextual meaning behind a job brief — skills, seniority, sector, hiring context — rather than matching exact keywords or job titles, surfacing relevant passive candidates that Boolean search routinely misses.

How Semantic Talent Discovery Works in TrueCalling

  1. Brief parsing

A 3-6 sentence natural-language job brief is parsed into structured intent (stack, seniority, sector, type of team).

  2. Embedding generation

Both the brief and 1.2B+ candidate profiles are embedded into a shared semantic space — closeness equals relevance.

  3. Multi-signal ranking

Trajectory signals (recent commits, conference talks, profile updates) layer on top of embeddings to estimate intent and disambiguate hot prospects.

  4. Shortlist surfacing

Top 10–20 ranked profiles are surfaced in under 8 minutes — each with an explainable TrueFit 360 score.

Legacy approach vs Semantic Talent Discovery

Legacy approachSemantic Talent Discovery (TrueCalling)
Boolean search — "Senior Engineer" AND "Python" AND "Spark" — misses anyone using different titles.Natural-language brief — "Senior backend, scale-up, K8s in prod" — finds equivalent profiles regardless of exact title.
Single-source search (LinkedIn only).Multi-source: LinkedIn, GitHub, Stack Overflow, conference talks, enriched bases (30+ public sources).
Ranking by keyword density.Ranking by trajectory + intent + context fit, with intent-level segmentation (satisfied-curious vs latent vs hidden-active).
